Fruit Cart on the Santa Monica Pier

Overview

The Fruit Cart sells the freshest and healthiest snack you can find on the Santa Monica Pier – fresh cut, seasonal fruit. Fruit offers both small and large cups of Mexican-style fresh fruit and coconuts, with toppings such as chili powder or Tajin. Take your fruit cup to-go and eat it with a fork while walking up and down the Pier boardwalk.

A cup of fresh-cut fruit that has been spiked with a squeeze of lemon juice, salt, chili, or Tajin is a popular snack in Mexico for hot days. Tajin is a brand of tangy chili powder that can be bought at most supermarkets. When eaten with fruit, it transforms ordinary flavors into a complex sweet and spicy medley. Some favorite types of fruit for this snack include mango, coconut and watermelon. Fruitas have become popular all over Los Angeles, with neighborhood fruit carts parked at the same corner each day. They often have elegant displays of colorful fruit in their window and you can get a giant cup of fruit at relatively inexpensive prices. The Santa Monica Pier Fruit Cart is no exception – this brightly colored cart is loaded with Mexican snacks, bottle sodas, and offers a wide selection of fresh-cut fruit.

Because this cool, healthy treat has become so popular in LA, you may see young boys and girls walking up and down the beach with tubs full of cut fruit to sell. Although there are many opportunistic salespersons on the beach eager to sell you a small plastic baggie of fruit doused in bottled lime juice, you should walk up onto the Santa Monica Pier to purchase a cup of cold, fresh fruit from the Fruit Cart – the only cart selling fruit at the Santa Monica Pier that holds and displays an LA County Department of Health certification. The blue letter “A” on the certification means that this fruit has been washed and cut at a County-inspected kitchen and that the operators have completed ServSafe training for cleanliness and handling of fresh produce. The Fruit Cart also serves their treats in eco-friendly, marine degradable containers and only offers compostable forks on request, as is required for all restaurants and food retailers in the City of Santa Monica.

The Fruit Cart is open daily and located on the Santa Monica Pier boardwalk directly across from the main entrance of Pacific Park.
