The Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel will be lit teal on Thursday, November 2 in recognition of Light the World in Teal.

Pacific Park will join more than 800 landmarks around the globe for Light the World in Teal, and awareness campaign for supporting Alzheimerโ€™s patients and their families on Friday, November 2. The Alzheimerโ€™s Foundation of America (AFA) produces the โ€œLight the World in Tealโ€ campaign to raise Alzheimerโ€™s awareness as part of Alzheimerโ€™s Awareness Month. People and places around the globe are invited to take part in the annual awareness initiative and can learn more by visiting www.lighttheworldinteal.com. Teal is AFAโ€™s Alzheimerโ€™s Awareness Color.

The Pacific Wheel will be lit in teal colors and feature icons from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. This special lighting event will take place on the evening of Thursday, November 2. The Ferris wheel lights can be seen from dusk until 11:35 PM each evening. Enjoy watching the light program online at www.dev.pacpark.enki.tech/live.

โ€œEvery person and place that participates in this global initiative is making a difference in the fight against Alzheimerโ€™s disease- and the more that join, the more awareness we will raise about Alzheimerโ€™s,โ€ said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFAโ€™s President and CEO. โ€œWe invite everyone to โ€˜go tealโ€™ on November 3 to show their support for the millions of people living with Alzheimerโ€™s.โ€

More than 800 landmarks in all 50 states and 13 other countries have already signed up to โ€œgo tealโ€ on November 3. From iconic skyscrapers, bridges and sports stadiums to small town village halls, each one will be turning teal to shine a spotlight on Alzheimerโ€™s disease. Individuals can also participate in raising Alzheimerโ€™s awareness by โ€œgoing tealโ€ on their own November 3 by wearing teal or posting photos on their social media platforms using the hashtag #AFALightTheWorldInTeal.

Families looking for additional information about Alzheimerโ€™s disease or support services can contact AFAโ€™s Helpline at 866-232-8484 or visit www.alzfdn.org.

Pacific Park regularly programs the Ferris wheel to display seasonal programing and themed light designs for holidays and special occasions. The Pacific Wheelโ€™s state-of-the-art lighting package was installed in 2016 and can display over 1.6 million different colors and animate patterns and icons in 24 frames per second. The energy efficient LEDs on the face of the Ferris wheel are powered by solar arrays inside Pacific Park. The light programs are curated and designed by Pacific Park staff. Each design is manually animated; some designs can take hours of programming. The aim is to provide fun, high-energy, and sometimes whimsical designs to entertain guests on the Santa Monica Pier and surrounding beaches.
