October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and with that there are many events nationwide to help support these initiatives. On Saturday October 26th there will be a walk at the Santa Monica Pier, called Making Strides of Santa Monica.
The walk is open for all ages to register, with the proceeds going towards the American Cancer Society. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walks began in 1993, and since then more than 13 million walkers have raised more than $810 million for the American Cancer Society. The funds are then used for innovative breast cancer research, providing free support to those affected by breast cancer, helping people in all communities take steps towards reducing the risk of breast cancer, and supporting patients who are in recovery. You can learn more about all of their breast cancer programs here.
For the Making Strides of Santa Monica walk, all participants can register online here, or at the check-in area the day of. The check-in opens at 8am, and the walk begins at 9:30am. During the opening ceremony at the Santa Monica Pier, cancer survivors and caregivers will share about their efforts, their passion for saving lives, and their inspirational stories about their dedication to breast cancer treatment. Even if you choose not to walk, you can support the walk by giving a donation that is tax deductible to a team or individual participating here.
