Opera at the Beach is fast becoming one of the west side’s most cherished traditions. Listening to and experiencing opera outside in such an iconic location is a must-attend event for anyone interested in the art of performance. LA Opera spares no expense in arranging for state-of-the-art broadcast live from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles to the Santa Monica Pier. The simulcast is displayed on a 40-foot screen outside on the pier. Guests are encouraged to bring low beach chairs to sit and enjoy the performance.

Tips for Attending Opera at the Beach

  • Guests can start setting up their chairs as early as 4:30 PM. Arrive early to enjoy free arts & crafts activities provided by LA Opera staff.
  • Ample parking is available throughout Downtown Santa Monica and the beaches. The closest parking is in Lot 1 North located at 1550 Appian Way. Check out these parking options by the Pier.
  • The pier offers several food & beverage options. Alcohol consumption is not permitted inside the LA Opera viewing area.
  • Although daytime temperatures at Santa Monica State Beach will be warm during the day, temps can drop by as much as 20 degrees after the sun sets. Pack a hoodie or blanket for your trip to stay warm during the performance.
  • This year, there will be NO chair rental available. Low beach chairs, cushions, and blankets are great for sitting on the pier deck; no canopies, tents, or sun umbrellas are allowed.
