The Santa Monica Public Library is offering free arts and crafts and rewards for readers this summer.
Readers of all ages can participate in the Santa Monica Library summer reading program that runs June 21st through August 15th 2021. You can participate in reading challenges, track reading time, earn prizes, and discover great books! Kids and teens earn prizes when they reach their reading goals; adults are entered to win a prize drawing. Learn more and sign up for the program at https://smpl.beanstack.org/reader365.
Santa Monica Public Library is also offering two “take and make” kits at select locations. One kit is of a Ferris wheel, sponsored by the Santa Monica History Museum. The Ferris Wheel Take & Make kit teaches kids about the history and engineering of the Santa Monica Pier. Through play with paper straws, rubber bands, and other items, children learn the basics of building structures. Available for pick up at Main Library Youth Services, Montana Avenue and Pico Curbside while supplies last.
Be sure to share any Ferris wheel kits you make with us by tagging us @pacpark or using the hashtag #PacificPark on Instagram!
The other kit is called Recycle City. This art kit engages kids and families in discovering new ways to help the environment by making art from recycled household items. Kids can join the Cayton Museum team to design a miniature city sculpture and discuss the value of community. Available at Main Library Youth Services, and at Montana Avenue Curbside and Pico Curbside, while supplies last.
