Pacific Park lights the Pacific Wheel with the iconic Red Cross to bring awareness to The American Red Cross

This March, Pacific Park once again joins hospitals, first responders, and our partners at the City in celebrating March as Red Cross Month. Each year, the President of the United States proclaims March as “Red Cross Month,โ€ an opportunity to honor and celebrate everyday heroes. The tradition of March being declared Red Cross Month began in 1943 with a proclamation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt and for more than 75 years, all U.S. presidents have designated March as a time to recognize the humanitarian efforts of the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross has prevented and alleviated human suffering in the face of emergencies โ€“ public health crises, wildfires, hurricanes, earthquakes โ€“ by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We are humbled by all those who have answered the call to serve others under our Red Cross emblem that continues to stand for help and hope during the most challenging of times. We salute all of the volunteers who make a difference in their communities by donating blood or platelets; spend time helping people affected by a disaster; learning life-saving skills from a Red Cross first aid or CPR class to help in an emergency; or provide comfort to a member of the military, a veteran or their family.

Pacific Park will be lighting the Pacific Wheel red and white and displaying the Red Cross emblem during the month of March.

If you are interested in supporting the mission of the Red Cross to provide comfort, support, and hope during the toughest of times, hereโ€™s how you can help:

  • Give Blood: Help fulfill the need for life-saving blood every 2 seconds. Every Red Cross blood donor receives a free COVID-19 antibody test. And if recovered from COVID-19, there is also a dire need for convalescent plasma donations.
  • Give Support: By supporting aid for employees who may be struggling with the impact of COVID-19, you can help the Red Cross maintain the highly trained and talented workforce required to continue delivering our lifesaving mission nationwide for those we serve. Help sustain the Red Cross workforce by donating today.
  • Give Time: The American Red Cross is always seeking volunteers interested in serving their community. Get trained as a disaster volunteer; host aโ€ฏSleevesโ€ฏUp! virtual blood drive; share your Red Cross Story on Social Media with the hashtag #BeAllIn.

Since their founding by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881, the American Red Cross has been dedicated to serving people in need. The Red Cross received their first congressional charter in 1900 and to this day are tasked by the federal government with providing services to members of the American armed forces and their families as well as providing disaster relief in the United States and around the world. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
