This March, Pacific Park once again joins hospitals, first responders, and our partners at the City of Santa Monica in celebrating March is Red Cross Month.

The American Red Cross Western Los Angeles Chapter is headquartered here in Santa Monica. The Red Cross is committed to providing community services including disaster relief, blood services, lifesaving skills training, services to the armed forces, and international aid. Pacific Park will be lighting the Pacific Wheel red and white and be displaying the Red Cross emblem during the month of March to show support for this great organization.

For more than 140 years since Clara Barton started the American Red Cross, her vision to prevent and alleviate human suffering has never wavered. People have come together for generations to adapt this mission for communities across the United States building on the foundation established by the Red Cross centuries ago.

Each March, the commitment of the American Red Cross to support individuals and families in need is celebrated with events, proclamations, and calls to support the organization through philanthropy and volunteerism in what is called March is Red Cross Month.

You can meet some Red Cross volunteers, learn more about the organizations mission, and even sign up to give blood on March 16 at Locals’ Night here at the Santa Monica Pier. Supporting the organization is easy: sign up to donate blood, refer a volunteer, or repost the Red Cross’s actions on your social media. To show our support, the Pacific Wheel will be red and white on March 1 and again on March 16; watch the live stream on Pacific Park Live Cams.

This special lighting event will take place on the evening of Wednesday, March 1. The Ferris wheel lights can be seen from dusk until 11:35 PM each evening. Enjoy watching the light program online at

Red Cross Working to Prevent Home Fires

With support from thousands of community partners, volunteers, donors and other supporters, the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has achieved its goal of installing 2.5 million free smoke alarms and making 1 million households safer across the country.

These devices have saved more than 1,500 lives since the organization began their mission to provide free installation and battery inspection in October 2014. Because it has made a lifesaving difference in the face of the nation’s most frequent disaster, the Red Cross will continue the program with community partners. Learn more at

The Los Angeles Region American Red Cross is rallying volunteers to install free smoke alarms as part of their Sound the Alarm events. Volunteers will install free smoke alarms, create escape plans and share fire safety information with residents in Lancaster, Artesia, East LA and Inglewood. Sign up now for a rewarding day at a Sound the Alarm event near you. Make an even greater impact and donate to help families prepare for, respond to and recover from home fires.

Donating Blood

Every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs blood. The American Red Cross is committed to ensuring that lifesaving blood and blood products are available to those in need. This blood is donated by volunteers like you at blood drives hosted across the city every week. During Red Cross Month, blood donors will be rewarded with a $10 Visa Prepaid Card. Take the edge off your next gas or grocery purchase, or indulge in something special just for you! And to take it up a notch, those who come to give blood in March will also automatically be entered for a chance to win a $3,000 Visa Prepaid Card. You could be one of five winners, so schedule an appointment today.
