The Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel will be lit teal on Tuesday, June 1 in recognition of MG Awareness.
The Pacific Wheel at the Santa Monica Pier will join other landmarks across the country by being lit teal in the month of June. The coordinated effort is to increase awareness of myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune, neuromuscular disease that causes weakness in the skeletal muscles, a disease that effects more than 60,000 people in the United States. #MGIlluminate is an initiative to inform more people of the disease, how it impacts the lives of people diagnosed, and how those people can seek treatment.
The name myasthenia gravis, which is Latin and Greek in origin, means โgrave, or serious, muscle weakness.โ There is no known cure, but with current therapies, most cases of myasthenia gravis are not as โgraveโ as the name implies. Available treatments can control symptoms and often allow people to have a relatively high quality of life. For more information, visit www.mgilluminate.com.
This special lighting event will take place on the evening of Tuesday, June 1. The Ferris wheel lights can be seen from dusk until 11:35 PM each evening. Enjoy watching the light program online at www.dev.pacpark.enki.tech/live.
