The Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel will be lit red, white, and blue, with all 5 insignias of the armed services on Friday, November 11 in recognition of Veterans Day.

Pacific Park will celebrate Veterans Day on November 11 to honor military veterans, active service members, and their families with a colorful salute on the Pacific Wheel in red, white, and blue with icons representing 5 branches of the US Armed Forces.

For the past several years, the US Army has been partnering with the City of Santa Monica to produce a Veteran’s Day event at Santa Monica Beach. This year, the event will take place on the Santa Monica Pier and speakers include Representative Ted Lieu and Councilmember Gleam Davis. Most of the Santa Monica City Council attend and it’s also well attended by the Santa Monica City Manager’s Office, Santa Monica Police, Fire, and Public Works. The ceremony honors US Army veterans and they will also swear in about a dozen new recruits. This draws many veteran families and the families of the new recruits that are pledging their serviceย to our country.

Veterans Day is an annual holiday observed in the US to coincide with similar celebrations including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which mark the anniversary of the end of World War I.

This special lighting event will take place on the evening of Friday, November 11. The Ferris wheel lights can be seen from dusk until 11:35 PM each evening. Enjoy watching the light program online at

Pacific Park regularly programs the Ferris wheel to display seasonal programming and themed light designs for holidays and special occasions. The Pacific Wheelโ€™s state-of-the-art lighting package was installed in 2016 and can display over 1.6 million different colors and animate patterns and icons in 24 frames per second. The energy-efficient LEDs on the face of the Ferris wheel are powered by solar arrays inside Pacific Park. The light programs are curated and designed by Pacific Park staff. Each design is manually animated; some designs can take hours of programming. The aim is to provide fun, high-energy, and sometimes whimsical designs to entertain guests on the Santa Monica Pier and surrounding beaches.
