The Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel will be lit red on Friday, February 2 in recognition of Wear Red Day.
Every year, on the first Friday of February, the American Heart Association, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, encourages the public to wear red to raise awareness and inspire them to live healthy and well to fight Americaโs leading killer. Pacific Park will join other area landmarks in support of National Wear Red Day by lighting the Pacific Wheel in red on Friday, February 2. For more information, go to WearRedDay.org.
This special lighting event will take place on the evening of Friday, February 2. The Ferris wheel lights can be seen from dusk until 11:35 PM each evening. Enjoy watching the light program online at www.dev.pacpark.enki.tech/live.

Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in women, claiming more lives than all cancers combined. Nearly 45% of women over age 20 are living with some form of CVD. Women experience unique life stages that increase their risk of developing CVD over their lifetime. Cardiovascular disease is also the leading cause of death for men and congenital heart defects are the most common birth defect in the U.S. But the good news is that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented with awareness, education and positive lifestyle changes.
Pacific Park regularly programs the Ferris wheel to display seasonal programing and themed light designs for holidays and special occasions. The Pacific Wheelโs state-of-the-art lighting package was installed in 2016 and can display over 1.6 million different colors and animate patterns and icons in 24 frames per second. The energy efficient LEDs on the face of the Ferris wheel are powered by solar arrays inside Pacific Park. The light programs are curated and designed by Pacific Park staff. Each design is manually animated; some designs can take hours of programming. The aim is to provide fun, high-energy, and sometimes whimsical designs to entertain guests on the Santa Monica Pier and surrounding beaches.
About the American Hear Association
The AHA is the nationโs oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. A shared focus on cardiovascular health unites our more than 35 million volunteers and supporters as well as more than 2,900 employees. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions donโt result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. The AHA seeks to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The AHA has invested more than $5 billion in research, making them the largest not-for-profit funding source for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease research next to the federal government.
