BHM PacPark
test2 -black-history-month-2024

This year, the City of Santa Monica is encouraging learning and discovery with a series of free events and suggested activities for Black History Month.

Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, is an annual celebration of the achievements of African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history and society. It is celebrated in February in the United States and Canada, and in October in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Santa Monica City Council presented a proclamation for Black History Month and announced this yearโ€™s theme: “Black Media & the Artsโ€. The cityโ€™s BHM celebration is organized by the Black History Month Committee. This year, the BHM Committee has organized another exciting slate of events with the support of the city’s partner affinity groups, local businesses, and city departments. The events will include a renewed focus on Service & Leadership, Black Family, Diversity & Contribution, Health & Wellness, and Black Resistance.
